Charity Quilts

Over the years Southport Quilters have made and donated many quilts to numerous Charities, both in this country( Macmillian Cancer Care, Hospitals, Hospices, Red Cross, British Heart Foundation are just a few) and abroad (Project Linus, Chernoble and Romania in particular).

This involvement with Charities is very important to our group. These have been much appreciated by those concerned, either given to use or as funding raising items. In previous Show years our group has made a large Quilt, which was donated to a chosen Charity for them to raffle for funds. Several thousand pounds have been raised over the years in this way. In fact, our first Quilts raffled raised £3300 due to the well organised way it was promoted by the staff and supporters of the Charity involved. Our group was however, very disappointed at the very small amount raised with our 2008 quilt.

Southport Quilters will not therefore make a large group charity quilt for the foreseeable future. Our efforts are to take a different direction with our Charity Quilts. We will still produce quilts of all sizes, as always and these will be offered to Charities nominated by members, for fund raising or in some cases, given to those who could use the quilts. This will be more on going throughout our year and will include larger number of charities.
